Mogwai, whose sound could be described as cosmic post-rock, were formed in 1996 in Glasgow, Scotland, by Stuart Braithwaite, Dominic Aitchison, and Martin Bulloch, longtime friends who decided they wanted to make "serious guitar music". Their first single, "Turner", followed in the same year. Before ist release, John Cummings joined the band as an additional guitarist. Mogwai's instrumental compositions are marked by their dynamic range, from delicate,
ambient passages to explosive, guitar-driven crescendos. Their debut album, "Young Team" (1997), showcased their ability to seamlessly blend beauty and brutality, establishing them as a pivotal force in the post-rock genre. Throughout their extensive career, Mogwai have continued to captivate audiences with critically acclaimed albums like "Come On Die Young" (1999), "Rock Action" (2001), and "Happy Songs for Happy People" (2003). Mogwai have also created multiple movie
soundtracks, for example for "Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait", and the French zombie series "Les Revenants", as well as a collaboration with Clint Mansell for the "The Fountain" soundtrack. The band also worked with film for their own music: For their 2010 live album and first live release, "Special Moves", the band worked with Vincent Moon, who directed a concert film titled "Burning" to be included in the release.
