Ultravox

Ultravox began in 1974 as Ultravox!, led by John Foxx before the iconic Midge Ure era. While their peers embraced punk’s distortion, Foxx pursued a fascination with synthesizers and glam rock. Their 1977 debut was notably produced by Brian Eno, yet commercial success remained elusive until the 1980s. A pivotal turning point was recording Systems of Romance in Germany with legendary Krautrock producer Conny Plank. Despite being synth-pop pioneers, they later collaborated with Beatles producer George Martin to break the American market. The band's massive hit "Vienna" famously spent weeks at number two without ever reaching the top spot.
