Dream Theater

Dream Theater was founded by music students John Petrucci, John Myung and Mike Portnoy in the early 1980s, at first under the name "Majesty". Their very first demo tape sold 1.000 times within just six months. In 1987, the group changed ist name into "Dream Theater", inspired by a now-demolished movie theater in California. Despite various personnel changes over time, the group has made itself a name in the international metal scene that today stands for epic compositions, shifting time signatures, and instrumental mastery. The group has gained a reputation as a phenomenal live band, with technical complexity being their music's key characteristic. Until today, Dream theater remain the benchmark for progressive metal.
