Südindische Tempelinstrumente
(Mono) 'Herausgegeben von der Musikethnologischen Abteilung des Museums für Völkerkunde Berlin
Staatliche Museen Preussischer Kulturbesitz
Thia album presents the sounds of musical instruments used in temple ceremonies of Southern India, along with verbal and pictorial information on their construction, manner of playing, and role. Many of them are also used in folk music, some, in addition, in classical music.
The data were collected in Madras during February and March 1968. The instruments were demonstrated and performed by musicians, most of whom serve in the temples.
The musical examples are not excerpts from longer pieces or contexts, but were expressly performed for this recording. They demonstrate the special melodic, metric and rhythmic figures of the individual instruments as well as their joint performance in typical groups.
Includes a 12' 12-page booklet with comments in German
