Seit 2006 hat sich das sich ständig verändernde Line-Up auf die ständigen Mitglieder Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis und Nate Walcott eingependelt; zusätzliche Musiker stoßen im Studio und auf Tour zur Band. Komplett ausgearbeitet und angefüllt mit purem Charisma ist ,The People's Key' ein selbstsicheres und ausgefeiltes Album, das künstlerisch wertvoll arrangiert ist und einmal mehr vom einnehmenden und hypnotischen Songwriting von Conor Oberst profitiert. Aufgenommen in Omaha, Nebraska, in den bandeigenen ARC Studios wurde ,The People's Key' von Mike Mogis produziert und von Mogis und Andy LeMaster ausgeführt.
