The Hawks waren die große Konkurrenz der What?For! in Berlin in den frühen 1990er Jahren. Auch sie waren stark Sixties orientiert. Allerdings war das große Vorbild ihres Sängers Jan der junge Jim Morrison. Und auch sonst waren The Hawks weniger am Beat und R&B der Pretty Things und Downliner?s Sect geschult wie The What?For! sondern eher an eben The Doors oder auch den ganz frühen Deep Purple oder Spooky Tooth. The Hawks tourten auch durch Frankreich und Spanien damals, wo ihnen die Fans regelrecht zu Füßen lagen, denn die Band hatte eine wirklich überzeugende Bühnenpräsenz und bestand aus erstklassigen Musikern.
