The Bar-Kays

The Bar-Kays are a legendary American soul and funk band that has left an indelible mark on the music industry. Formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1966, the group originally served as the backing band for the iconic soul singer Otis Redding.

Tragically, in 1967, four of the original members of the Bar-Kays lost their lives in a plane crash alongside Otis Redding. Despite this devastating setback, the band rebuilt and persevered, adding new members to their lineup.

In the 1970s, the Bar-Kays experienced a resurgence, delivering a series of funky and energetic hits that solidified their status as pioneers of funk music. Songs like "Soul Finger" and "Shake Your Rump to the Funk" became staples of the genre, showcasing their infectious rhythms and tight instrumentation.

Beyond their success as a recording group, the Bar-Kays became renowned for their electrifying live performances. With their dynamic stage presence and groovy tunes, they became a force to be reckoned with in the world of soul and funk.
