Faithless are a British electronic music group formed in London in 1995, best known for blending
house, trip-hop, and
downtempo electronics with thoughtful, spoken-word lyrics. The core members are
Rollo Armstrong, Sister Bliss, and
Maxi Jazz, whose distinctive voice and introspective writing became central to the group’s identity.
They broke through internationally with their 1996 debut Reverence, driven by the iconic track “Insomnia”, one of the most influential club records of the 1990s. Rather than following purely hedonistic dance trends, Faithless focused on themes of spirituality, social awareness, and personal reflection.
Albums such as Sunday 8PM, Outrospective, and No Roots produced enduring tracks including “God Is a DJ,” “We Come 1,” and “Salva Mea,” while their reputation as a powerful live act helped them headline major festivals worldwide. Following periods of hiatus and reunion, Faithless remain widely regarded as a defining force in British electronic music.
Maxi Jazz died in 2022, closing a key chapter in the group’s history.
