Emmylou Harris

Emmylou Harris used to be a rather unknown folk singer, when country legend Gram Parsons heard her perform at a club in the early 70s. He was immediately captivated by her voice and invited her to record an album and tour together in 1973. Harris was initially unsure, but finally agreed, as she needed the money. The duo’s harmonic vocals fascinated audiences, and with their musical harmony the two developed stronger feelings. When Parsons died young as a consequence of an alcohol and drug excess at the Joshua Tree Monument, Harris processed her pain in her songs, with which she started a successful solo career, which has continued until the present. 2011 she said in an interview that Parsons’ death haunts her until today and that she was eternally grateful to him for believing in her and paving her musical way.
