Chick Corea

Born Armando Anthony Corea in 1941, Chick Corea studied briefly at Columbia and Juilliard before joining Miles Davis during his electric transition, appearing on Bitches Brew. His 1968 trio album Now He Sings, Now He Sobs later entered the Grammy Hall of Fame. Corea founded Return to Forever, introducing a 19-year-old Al Di Meola, and wrote standards including “Spain.” A 23-time Grammy winner, he collaborated widely, from Gary Burton to Béla Fleck, remaining active until his death in 2021.
